Welcome to Grateful Paws Dog & Cat Rescue

We are a small, but mighty, Not-For-Profit - 501(c)(3) - No-Kill dog and cat rescue organization in South Florida.  We are comprised solely of volunteers who love animals. We rescue stray, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered dogs and cats and work very hard to place them in loving homes.

We are comprised ENTIRELY of volunteers with full-time careers and families. We believe the best environment for a dog or cat is a loving home.  Acquiring and staffing a shelter becomes a tremendous overhead cost as we want 100% of our funds to go towards the rescue, care and adoption of our animals.  We depend on our Foster Families to care for our rescued animals until we can find their "Forever" Family.  We do the rescue stuff (which is our true passion) after work and on the weekends. So if your phone calls or emails are not answered by a live person right away --- it's probably because we are at work and will reply as soon as we get home.

Thank you so much for your generosity.

This handsome guy was rescued from a Home Depot parking lot late one night; emaciated, filthy, burns to the pads of all four of his feet and a road burn on his hind end. But he is totally OK now!
He was placed in a great home with an active female dog about his same size - but he has decided he would prefer a home with a calmer, smaller more laid back dog.
So NOW, we are looking for a new home for Homer -- hopefully with a calm, laid back smaller dog - NO cats. He is great with people but he might be too big and clumsy for toddlers.
He's neutered, vaccinated and chipped and is a total SWEETIE PIE - about 2 years old, 60 lbs. and a real goober. Likes to lean on you -- a very friendly and gentle demeanor - He is a big goof.  He needs basic training to stop him from jumping on you (or your mother!).
Adoption fee $250

Please download an application from our website:  www.gratefulpaws.org

NOTE: Adoption/rehoming fees are applied towards the vet bill: exam, blood tests, vaccinations, fecal, worming, spay/neuter, dental if necessary, and a microchip. There is rarely anything left over, but if that happens, the monies get applied to the next or previous pet - who may have had to have an x-ray, be groomed or have a dental.

MEET "RYAN"
We got a distress call 4 weeks ago from a guy who from the side of the road in Homestead, rescued a mid-sized dog who was just lying there.. hang dog- defeated... likely a "bait dog" and in tough shape.
We met them at VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital-- and in spite of ALL his injuries, his tail never stopped wagging. He was a HOT MESS and is as SWEET as can be! He is about 40 lbs., looks like a Dingo-dog... Shepherd/Lab mix perhaps... (clearly a mutt), intact and pretty emaciated.
His wounds were highly infected and had more than 125+ bite holes. Thank God for antibiotics and a great Vet (or two)!  His injuries didn't end up being life threatening (thankfully), and we are delighted to report he has mended well and has JUST been placed in a foster home in Ft. Lauderdale. He is on meds to treat an anemic-type condition, but it is being treated.
We are working with him slowly introducing him to dogs of all sizes - and he is doing well. He is not confrontational, but is a little lacking in confidence.
$$$  His vet bill was a WHOPPER $$$~~ One of the biggest we've ever had.  ICU for 2+ weeks.  If you wish to make a donation towards his care: Grateful Paws has a secure Paypal link on our website (www.gratefulpaws.org). Be sure to include your email address so we can acknowledge your generosity and earmark it for RYAN. OR-- you can mail a check to GPDCRI, 1881 SW 21 Street, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33315.
He is on the schedule to be neutered and chipped.

Grateful Paws held our 4th Annual Howl-o-ween Party at Central Bark Doggy Daycare today -- and WHAT A DAY!

Let me start by saying that CENTRAL BARK was a most gracious and generous host. And we would like to openly thank them for their generosity and the opportunity to have our event at their facility. We have tons of pictures but they haven't been downloaded as yet, so please STAY TUNED! And a special thank you to CHER (aka Debbie Knight) who put on quite a show!

Thanks again Central Bark for supporting Grateful Paws and allowing us an opportunity to raise some funds for the animals in our care. Chris, Lary & Kate -- you ROCK.
