Conosco Tinaiso da quando era ancora un bambino, l’ho incontrato nella Casa della Gioia (Baan Unrak Children's Home) che ospita molti bambini meno fortunati che provengono da situazioni di violenza e abbandono. La Casa si trova in Thailandia ai confini con la Birmania, dove da molti anni prima del Covid mi recavo per fare volontariato. La cosa che mi ha sempre impressionato di Tinaiso è la sua vivacità mentale, intelligenza e vitalità che ha sempre dimostrato nel suo coraggio e gioia di vivere, tutto questo a dispetto dei suoi non pochi problemi fisici che madre Natura è stata molto prodiga nel riversare su di lui! Già da neonato aveva dovuto subire una operazione al cuore, operazione che lo ha salvato e gli ha permesso di fare una vita quasi normale fino a pochi anni fa. Infatti, è sempre stato fra i primi della sua classe nello studio, nell’apprendere l’inglese e comunicare senza timidezze con i volontari ospiti della casa, il primo nelle scorribande e negli scherzi tra ragazzi. Adesso che è peggiorata la deformazione che dalla nascita gli provoca la curvatura interna delle gambe causando che le ginocchia si tocchino e i piedi siano spostati verso l'esterno "ginocchia valghe", i dolori lancinanti alle gambe, da quasi 4 anni, non gli permettono di fare la cosa più normale di questo mondo per un ragazzo: “camminare”!

I dottori ortopedici che lo hanno visto hanno detto che l’unica soluzione è un’operazione alle gambe che cerchi di correggere questo problema fisico; quando gli è stato prospettato l’intervento gli è anche stato detto che le sue gambe sarebbero state più corte e quindi sarebbe stato ancora più basso di quanto lo sia già adesso. Tinaiso non ci ha pensato un momento; per lui la possibilità di poter ancora camminare e correre con gli amici senza i dolori atroci che lo fanno soffrire, è più forte dei due mesi che dovrà passare su una sedia a rotelle, perché le gambe appena operate non potranno reggere il suo peso; più forte di non poter provvedere a se stesso senza l’aiuto di una persona che lo segua tutto il tempo; più forte del lungo periodo di riabilitazione che lo attende; più forte di altre operazioni chirurgiche che dovrà fare in futuro per correggere altri problemi fisici; ed è più forte in lui la volontà di vivere una vita dignitosa!

Io sto con lui, tutta Baan Unrak e tutti i volontari che lo hanno conosciuto stanno con lui!

Il costo dell’intervento chirurgico è assicurato, ma non basta; Tinaiso ha bisogno del nostro aiuto economico che servirà per il periodo post-operatorio, per comprare la sedia a rotelle, per la riabilitazione e fisioterapia, per fare i viaggi di controllo medico accompagnato da una persona, per permettere che una persona possa assisterlo, e per tutte le altre cose di cui un ragazzo non autonomo necessita (pannolini ecc.). L’invito a donare è sempre un invito all’amore per il prossimo: come tante gocce formano il mare anche una piccola donazione può servire a raggiungere il nostro obbiettivo, quello di permettere a Tinaiso, un ragazzo di 16 anni, la possibilità di potere ancora camminare! I know Tinaiso since he was still a child, I met him in the House of Joy (Baan Unrak Children's Home) where many less fortunate children, coming from situations of violence and neglect are staying. The Home is located in Thailand on the border with Burma, where I had been going to volunteer for many years before Covid. The thing that has always impressed me about Tinaiso is his mental vivacity, intelligence and vitality that he has always shown in his courage and joy of life, all in spite of his many physical problems that Mother Nature has been very prodigal in showering on him! Even as an infant he had to undergo heart surgery, an operation that saved him and enabled him to lead an almost normal life until a few years ago. In fact, he has always been among the top of his class in studying, learning English and communicating without shyness with the volunteer house guests, the first in raids and pranks among boys. Now for almost 4 years, that his deformation since birth has worsened, causing the inner curvature of his legs causing his knees to touch and his feet to be shifted outward "valgus knees," the excruciating pains in his legs have not been allowing him to do the most normal thing in this world for a boy: "walking"!

The orthopedic doctors who have seen him have said that the only solution is a leg operation that would try to correct this physical problem; when the surgery was being contemplated, it was also told that his legs would be shorter and thus he would be even shorter than he already is now. Tinaiso did not think about it for a moment; for him, the possibility of still being able to walk and run with friends without the excruciating pain, is stronger than the two months that he will have to spend in a wheelchair because as his newly operated legs will not be able to support his weight; stronger than not being able to provide for himself without the help of a person to watch over him all the time; stronger than the long period of rehabilitation that awaits him; stronger than other surgeries he will have to have in the future to correct other physical problems; even stronger in him is the will to live a dignified life!

I stand with him, all of Baan Unrak and all the volunteers who have known him stand with him!

The cost of the surgery is secured, but it is not enough; Tinaiso needs our financial help that will be used for the post-operative period, to buy the wheelchair, for rehabilitation and physiotherapy, to make the medical check-up trips accompanied by a person, to allow a person to assist him, and for all the other things that a non-self-autonomous boy need (diapers, etc.). The call to donate is always an invitation to love others: as many drops form the sea, even a small donation can serve to achieve our goal, that of permitting Tinaiso, a 16-year-old boy, the possibility of still being able to walk!
