Soy Ander, y quería explicaros la situación en la que me encuentro, la cual algunos ya conocéis un poco.

I’m Ander, some of you already know some details but I would like to explain the current situation I am in.
LUCÍA Y ANDER:
Me gustaría presentaros a Lucia, mi madre. Mi madre siempre tuvo un sueño, y fue conocer Machhu Picchu. Estuvo a tres días de hacerlo.
Mi madre es una de las personas que me impulsó a irme de voluntariado cuando no era feliz en mi trabajo en España: ¨Vete a conocer sudamérica Ander, disfruta, y ayuda¨, y ahí nos fuimos, María y yo de voluntarios a Perú con esta magnifica familia que es All Hands and Hearts. Pasó el tiempo y empezamos a trabajar con la ONG, reconstruyendo escuelas por todo el Perú y Dominica.
Y por fin, tras jubilarse después de 40 años trabajados en España, vimos la magnífica posibilidad de visitar Macchu Picchu juntos. Ella se moría por visitar los lugares donde trabajamos y los lugares donde All Hands and Hearts ayuda. Y tuvo la oportunidad de hacerlo. Llegó a Arequipa el 6 de Mayo, donde estamos construyendo dos aulas y una cocina en una escuela construida por HHF hace 4 años. Justo en esa fecha se celebra en Perú el día de la madre y en la escuela todos los niños la saludaron y le regalaron fantásticos dibujos por ser una mamá también. Comimos todos juntos y disfrutamos del dia de la madre con los profesores y los niños del colegio.

I want to introduce all of you to Lucia, my mother.
Lucia was one of the people who encouraged me the most to volunteer when I was not happy with my job in Spain. She used to tell me: "You should go to South America Ander. You will enjoy it, also help and learn there". And so I did. Maria and I arrived to Peru, we joined this amazing and big family that is All Hands and Hearts. We eventually started working with the NGO, rebuilding schools affected by natural disasters throughout Peru and Dominica.
My mother has always had a dream, it was to visit Machu Picchu and finally, after her retirement having worked 40 years in Spain, we saw the perfect opportunity to make this trip together and also show her everything that we have been doing here… we were only three days away from doing it.
She was very excited to visit the places where are working and the places where All Hands and Hearts helps. On May 6th she came to Arequipa where we are rebuilding two classrooms and a kitchen in a school built by HH 4 years ago. On this same date Mother's Day is celebrated in Peru and at the school all the children met her and gave her fantastic drawings for being a mom too. We all ate together and enjoyed Mother’s day with the teachers and the children of the school.
QUÉ HA OCURRIDO:
El domingo 26 algo cambió: Lucía se despertó encontrándose mal y nos fuimos al hospital. Lo que parecía una molesta infección de orina se convirtió rápidamente en una septicemia: una infección general que se extendió rápidamente a todos sus órganos y la dejó al borde de la muerte en pocas horas sin apenas dejar esperanza para sobrevivir. Los médicos nos hablaban de una mortalidad del 98% y nos aconsejaron que esperásemos su fallecimiento en cualquier momento. Hasta ahora, puedo decir que fue el peor día de mi vida.
Aún así Lucía aguantó con vida durante los dos días siguientes.
Hemos vivido entre la negación y la aceptación, recibiendo novedades mas o menos similares de los internistas de la UCI, hasta que su cuerpo comenzó a reaccionar lentamente, a elevar su tensión y crear plaquetas por sí misma. Esto cambió un poco la perspectiva y surgió la posibilidad de arriesgarnos a hacer una colocación de un cateter en cada riñón. En una situación normal sería sencilla pero en este caso volvía a ser de vida o muerte.
Lucía volvió a aguantar.
Aunque hoy nos encontramos con un 73 por ciento de mortalidad, es esperanzador, y a pesar de ser un dato que da mucho miedo, vemos una luz al final del túnel.
WHAT HAPPENED:
On Sunday May 26th something changed. Lucia woke up feeling unwell and we went to the hospital. What seemed to be a simple and annoying urinary infection, quickly turned into a septicemia: a general infection that spread to all of her organs so fast that left her on the verge of death in a few hours with little hope left to survive. The doctors said she had 2% chances to survive and advised us to wait for her death at any time.
I can say that this was the worst day of my life.
Even so Lucia endured life for the next two days.
We have lived between denial and acceptance, receiving more or less similar news from the internists of the ICU, until her body began to react slowly, to raise its tension and create platelets by itself. This changed the perspective a bit and the possibility arose of risking a catheter placement in each kidney. In a normal situation it would be simple procedure but in this case it would be life or death on more time.
Lucia resisted again.
Although today we have 73% percent mortality, her progress is encouraging and despite it being still a very scary and high percentage we see a light at the end of the tunnel.
NUESTRA SITUACIÓN ACTUAL:
Afortunadamente, mi madre tenía un seguro médico de viaje que nos mandó directamente a la mejor clínica privada de Arequipa.
Perú tiene un sistema médico público muy precario y no habrían podido hacer nada por ella. La situación sanitaria en este país deja totalmente vulnerables a quienes no tienen dinero o un seguro médico que les permita ir a una clínica privada. Ésta situación la vivimos día a día los que llevamos un tiempo en este país.
La póliza de 15000 euros que nos cubría el seguro duró exactamente 4 días. A partir de este momento nos hemos hecho cargo económicamente.
La suma total de gastos en cirugía, fármacos e internamiento en la UCI ascienden hoy a 22000 euros en 5 días.
La media matemática es de 4400 euros diarios.
Estos datos económicos llevan días asustándonos. Si la evolución de la salud de mi madre sigue este ascenso positivo y lento, me temo que estas cifras se multipliquen rápidamente y dentro de poco se convierta en una situación prácticamente imposible de afrontar para mi.
Hemos agotado todas las posibilidades: seguros, embajadas, consulados...
OUR CURRENT SITUATION:
Fortunately, my mother had travel with medical insurance that sent us directly to the best private clinic in Arequipa.
Peru has a very precarious public medical system and could not have done anything for her. The health situation in this country leaves totally vulnerable those who do not have money or medical insurance that allows them to go to a private clinic. Those of us who have been in this country for a while, know and live this situation day by day.
The insurance policy covered 15,000 euros that lasted only 4 days. Since then we have taken over economically.
The total sum of expenses in surgery, drugs and admission to the ICU have reached to 22.000 Euros in only 5 days.
This means around 4400 euros per day. If the evolution of my mother's health continues this positive (and we hope it will) and slow rise, I am afraid that this amount will multiply quickly and It will become an almost impossible sum for us to face soon...
This financial information has been scaring us each and every day.
We have exhausted all possibilities: insurance, embassies, consulates ...
QUE NECESITAMOS:
Nuestro objetivo es que Lucía consiga llegar a un estado de salud que le permita viajar en un avión medicalizado hasta España, el cual sí que estaría pagado por su seguro, y seguir allí su tratamiento pero a día de hoy nos quedan por afrontar muchos días de UCI antes de poder soñar con ese momento.
Según los médicos, si todo va bien, pueden quedar alrededor de 10 difíciles días de UCI por delante.
Nuestro objetivo es conseguir el dinero para esos 10 días de UCI.
4400 euros x 10 días = 44000 euros
Estamos abrumados y emocionados con la cantidad de mensajes y llamadas que estamos recibiendo y volvemos a deciros lo importante que es para nosotros recibir este apoyo cuando estamos tan lejos de casa.
Por eso esta plataforma es nuestro último recurso. Os ofrece la posibilidad de materializar aún más todo ese apoyo que nos estáis dando.

WHAT WE NEED
Our goal is for Lucia to get to a health situation that allows her to travel in a medicalized plane to Spain, this trip would be paid for by her insurance, so she would continue her treatment there. But reality shows that she still needs to face many days of ICU before being able to dream with that moment.
According to doctors, if all goes well, there may be about 10 difficult days of ICU ahead.
Our goal is to get the money for those 10 days of ICU.
4.400 euros x 10 days = 44.000 euros
We are overwhelmed and excited with the amount of messages and calls we are receiving and we want to tell you again how important it is for us to receive this support when we are so far from home. This platform is our last resource. It offers you the possibility to materialize even more all the support that you are giving us.
