What is PSEO?      

Taking high school classes on a college campus at no charge.

Do I need to apply?  

Yes!  Must do so directly with the college.

Do I need to test?        

No, they will look at your GPA and grades.  But ACT/PSAT/SAT can be used if your GPA is below their requirements.

How do I begin?

Check college website for specific instructions and steps.

How do I get to the college?

Need to have transportation (i.e., car, city bus). May qualify for reimbursement based on MN State guideline.

When can I go?  

Fall (classes start Aug).  Spring (classes start January & overlap with SLP semester 1)

When can I start my application?

Anytime after February 1st

Can I apply to more than 1 school?

Yes.  Helpful to only ATTEND one school.

When I submit an application, then what?        

WATCH your email for specific instruction from the college.

When do I pick PSEO classes?

Email will invite you to an Advising & Registration on college campus.

What do I do if I get accepted to both?

Helpful to eventually pick one by your Advising & Registration time

Is there help at college?        

Your Professor has office hours.  Some sights may have tutoring rooms.

When time are classes?

It depends. Could be at 8am or 7pm; five days a week or 3 days a week.

How intense is PSEO?        

Example: full year SLP English class often done in 1 PSEO semester.

Can I take electives?        

Yes, as long as approved by PSEO advisor

How do PSEO credits work?

2:1 ratio.  For every 2 credits at PSEO, 1 credit at SLP.

Example: Semester one PSEO English class worth 4 credits = 2 SLP credits.

This means you earned a full year of English in 1st semester.

Do PSEO grades go on my HS transcript?

Yes. More importantly, they are part of your forever college transcript.

What do people forget to do when applying to PSEO?

  1. Fill out part 1 of the “3-part form” and give to School Counselor.
  2. They do NOT check emails and miss vital communication.
  3. They forget to bring in a copy of PSEO schedule to School Counselor

What is the Accuplacer?

Can I practice?

A placement test (Reading, Math, Writing)  to determine college readiness.  Students MUST pass Reading to pursue PSEO.

Can I use other test scores like ACT, PSAT or MCA’s?

Yes.  Need to consult with your PSEO site.

Typically a 21 ACT reading or 1047 MCA.

Other deadlines to know?

The State of MN requires students/families to notify the school by May 30th of their intent to enroll in PSEO.

Is PSEO right for me?

·      Am I ready for college academics and a much faster pace?

·      Have I shown that I’m a responsible person who can get to classes and complete assignments on my own?

·      Will I miss not being as involved at my high school with friends?

·      How will I get there?

o   Since transportation isn’t covered by the program you should also consider how long it will take to travel from one school to the other.

 

Are there summer options to take classes?

·           Possibly at some locations for regular tuition cost

·           High School Non-PSEO Program

o   Students admitted under this option are responsible for payment of all tuition, fees, books and supplies associated with their enrollment.

o   must meet PSEO Eligibility Requirements to be eligible

How many classes can I take?

·      Depends on what you need for graduation

·      Depends if PSEO institution has course limits
