It is Warren's first stop on her four-town Iowa tour. The senator said it's time to rebuild the middle class and make government work for the people again.

“America works for (the) rich and powerful and we need to call it out for what it is: corruption pure and simple,” Warren said.

She listed ideas to fight the “corruption” like ending super-PAC funding, lobbying and the ties between "Washington and Wall Street."

Warren shared stories of her upbringing in a minimum wage household and said those opportunities have gone away in favor of advancing business interests.

“What disturbs me now and gets me in this fight is how much harder this path is getting because of decisions made in Washington that shrink up opportunities for our kids,” she said.

Three hundred supporters packed into the venue and another 200 stood outside listening in.

“She's for the working class she's for the middle class and that's what we need,” Alice Hodde said.

“I thought her talking points were very strong and she was passionate. But she was very down-to-earth and humble, and I feel passionately about her after this event,” Samantha Salvatori said.

Pottawattamie County Republicans see Warren failing in the traditionally Republican area and predict a re-election for President Donald Trump in 2020.

“I consider her very left wing. I consider her as a socialist. I don’t see that message selling well here in southwest Iowa,” Charlie Johnson, chair of the Pott County Republican party, said.

“We know it’s going to be a challenging year and we're already working. We're looking forward to it and we really expect to do well here in southwest Iowa," Johnson said.

Warren is the first well-known Democrat to take the official first step toward the presidency. She now moves on to Sioux City for another event Saturday.
