Un aiuto per Giorgio - Help Giorgio Fight ATRT

La storia di Giorgio inizia a novembre quando Andrea e LeeAnn notano che qualcosa non va, ha problemi a dormire, ha frequenti episodi di vomito e lamenta mal di testa quasi costanti che iniziano a influenzare il suo appetito. Dopo settimane di consultazioni con specialisti e una crescente frustrazione per l'apparente mancanza di una prognosi definitiva, una risonanza magnetica il 22 novembre conferma che è presente una massa cistica nel lobo frontale destro del cervello che somiglia a un tumore. Dopo l'incontro con l'oncologia e la neurologia pediatrica, è stato programmato per il 5 dicembre 2022 un'operazione per tentare l'asportazione completa del tumore. Dopo l'intervento che ha rimosso gran parte del tumore ma non 2cm3 , il team dell'ospedale Children's di Saint Paul ci ha confermato quello che fin da subito ci avevano indicato come possibilità: ATRT Tumore teratoide/rabdoide atipico. E' stato quindi stilato un programma di cure che comprende: - fase 1 Induzione: 2 cicli di chemioterapia e prelievo delle cellule staminali. - fase 2 Consolidamento: 3 cicli di chemioterapia (aggressiva) e rinfusione delle cellule staminali - fase 3 Radiazioni: 6 settimane di Protonterapia per 5 giorni alla settimana Al termine Giorgio dovrà assumere chemioterapia orale per circa un anno. Nel momento in cui scrivo, Giorgio sta per iniziare la fase 2, che sarà una battaglia ancora più grande e dura di quelle già combattute fino ad oggi, ma sono sicura che anche questa volta il nostro guerriero ci dimostrerà la sua forza. ****************************************************************************** Giorgio's story begins in November when Andrea and LeeAnn notice something is wrong, he has trouble sleeping, has frequent episodes of vomiting and complains of almost constant headaches which begin to affect his appetite. After weeks of consultations with specialists and growing frustration at the apparent lack of a definitive prognosis, a Nov. 22 MRI scan confirms that there is a cystic mass in the right frontal lobe of the brain that resembles a tumor. After meeting with pediatric oncology and neurology, an operation was scheduled for December 5, 2022 to attempt the complete removal of the tumor. After the surgery that removed most of the tumor but not 2cm3, the Saint Paul Children's Hospital team confirmed what they had immediately pointed out to us as a possibility: ATRT Atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor. A treatment program was therefore drawn up which includes: - phase 1 Induction: 2 cycles of chemotherapy and collection of stem cells. - phase 2 Consolidation: 3 cycles of (aggressive) chemotherapy and refusion of stem cells - Phase 3 Radiation: 6 weeks of Proton Therapy 5 days a week At the end Giorgio will have to take oral chemotherapy for about a year. At the time of writing, Giorgio is about to begin phase 2, which will be an even bigger and tougher battle than those already fought to date, but I'm sure that this time too our warrior will show us his strength.
