California Advances Bill to Aid Women Traveling For an Abortion

California would put up cash to help low-income residents and those from out-of-state obtain abortions under legislation that passed its first legislative hurdle Wednesday.

The legislation (S.B. 1142) passed the Senate Health Committee 7-to-2 and proceeds to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The bill comes as the state could see a 3,000% increase in people traveling to California for abortions if a total ban is enacted in the U.S., bill co-author Sen. Anna Caballero (D) said Wednesday.
