Using several Google Cloud and Google Workspace resources, the company has managed to develop, ensure even greater agility for its operations, and keep evolving its service platform.

Results

  • Ability to scale securely
  • Integration with Docs API to improve customer experience
  • Easy product deployment

90%-plus savings using Cloud Run

LegAut handles the search, analysis, and sorting of all real-estate documentation. It uses crawlers to search for documents and AI to assess them. The data is organized in an intuitive platform to cut red tape and accelerate real-estate purchasing and sales processes.

As a result, customers can upload their documents to the platform, get a structured view of the information, and extract it in their preferred format. The goal is making transactions increasingly immediate, accessible, and beneficial for everyone using technology.

Based in Rio de Janeiro and with a team still working remotely, LegAut has been growing and looking for new business opportunities. But in 2018, while attending a Google Cloud event at Maracanã Stadium, the company’s co-founder realized cloud solutions could have a positive impact on the way his company operated.

“It was a highly rewarding experience because during the event I got to talk with sales engineers. They gave me a more detailed explanation about the products and their practical uses. That was the catalyst that drove the decision to use cloud services later,” says Edivaldo Delgado, LegAut’s co-founder and CTO.

Another milestone for the company was its inclusion in the Black Founders Fund, a Google for Startups initiative to invest financial resources, with no compensation or equity stake, in startups founded and led by black entrepreneurs in Brazil. By taking part in the program, LegAut also gained access to mentorship sessions and presentations, as well as support from expert teams, which gave the company a new outlook on Google Cloud’s’ usability.

The evolving use of tools

As soon as they began assessing strategies based on Google Cloud’s tools, LegAut’s workers adopted a few solutions, such as App Engine, which allows apps to be created and sized in a fully managed platform, and Cloud SQL, which provided essential support materials to meet the company’s needs, (especially regarding the use of Django and MySQL).

“The differentiator was the fact that, as the system evolved, we did not have to assign more developers to take care of the infrastructure, as Google Cloud’s self-managed services met our demands.”

The company is also using Compute Engine for a variety of tasks, such as machine learning training and inference workloads, for example. Cloud Storage and Cloud SQL, which handles the database with backups and autoscaling, play a major role for static files.

A significant part of LegAut’s apps is also running in Cloud Run, based on a serverless architecture with Pub/Sub, enabling a more efficient cost structure while maintaining operational scalability.

“One advantage of Google Cloud’s services is their consistent design. Because of that, the platform’s interface is similar to all Google products and their use is intuitive, so the learning curve is quite short.”

Iuri Veloso, Developer, LegAut

The company began to notice positive results. Thanks to Cloud Run, they achieved more than 90% in savings, compared with traditional instances. Other improvements include scalability, security, and how easy it is to deploy products.

Incorporating Google Workspace and new projects

Soon after LegAut hired Google Cloud’s services, Google Workspace became a part of the startup’s routine, since its employees were working remotely and using several features found in the environment.

Google Meet remains essential for holding meetings. Sheets is used to create spreadsheets in simultaneous collaboration, and Calendar and Docs streamline workers’ daily routines.

“Another point is that every report generated in the platform and sent to end customers is done by Docs. This is a very interesting feature. We use that tool’s API to streamline processes.”

Wesley Mota, Developer, LegAut

Regarding the future in the cloud, the startup intends to begin using Vertex AI to organize the vast amount of data and information contained in the company’s database, and to develop a machine learning operation pipeline.

“Vertex AI is a valid option for ordering data, and we have been assessing it. The goal is to keep extracted data in a structured format and perform even more interactions and tests in the models we use. The MLOps pipeline becomes more and more important from the moment the data volume increases,” says Delgado.
