'Winning mentality and good sportsmanship': Iowans reflect on Kobe Bryant's life
Iowans were among many fans who are mourning NBA star Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and the seven others on board the helicopter that crashed in California on Sunday morning. Some of the fans were at the Outlets of Des Moines in Altoona shopping for memorabilia. Fans said his impact carried further than just the basketball court and he inspired the next generation of athletes to be winners in every part of life. "He affected more than just basketball. His kind of killer mentality, that idea he took from (Michael Jordan), to constantly fight and just be competitive on all aspects on both sides of the floor, he took that to sports, to film , to everything he kind of did," said Jacob Hamilton, of Des Moines. Tonight at 10 p.m., KCCI will have reactions from youth basketball programs in the metro on how they hope their players can learn from Bryant's life.
