Summer Reading Program B.A.R.K.

Donation protected

Thomasville City Schools is located in southwest GA.  With a student population of 2942, we understand the need for a summer reading program that helps to prevent and/or slow the summer reading loss research tells us will occur if we do not engage our students in a quality summer reading program.

B.A.R.K. (Bulldogs Always Reading for Kicks) was established in the summer of 2014, with 20 students and three teachers.  Last summer we completed the program with 60 students in grades 3-7, 9 teachers, 1 paraprofessional, and two bus drivers.  This year's program will support struggling and accelerated readers in grades 2-6.  We anticipate between 60-80 participants.

Although the program is funded mainly through Title I-A funds, we are not allowed to use federal funds to purchase take-home resources such as student summer reading kits (bookbags with reading texts and other at-home resources).

We ask for your support in raising extra funds that will support our program in providing all our participants with take-home bookbags filled with reading resources (average cost is $38 per bag)! Reading is the cornerstone of all learning, and we want to ensure that all our students are given the opportunity to read both during B.A.R.K. and at home with their parents and families.

Thank you so much for support in helping all our students become grade-level readers!!
