  • The AAP is Khas Aadmi Party, said the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister.

After the BJP came down heavily on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after its Gujarat chief Gopal Italia made derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Bhagel has also condemned the party, stating that the comments made by the AAP leader were in poor taste.

Stating that Italia made casteist remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother who has nothing to do with politics, Bhagel said that besides the BJP, now even the Congress will give a tough competition to the AAP in the Gujarat elections.

Further claiming that the AAP is going to every state to defeat the Congress, Bhagel took a jibe at Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's party stating that the AAP is not Aam Aadmi Party but 'Khas Aadmi Party'.

Gopal Italia was detained and taken to Sarita Vihar police station by the Delhi Police for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother. However, he was released after a few hours in detention.

A video of Italia making the derogatory remarks, which is reportedly from 2019 in the run-up to the general elections, went viral on social media, giving the BJP the opportunity to launch a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party.

BJP leader Smriti Irani called Italia a "guttermouth". Taking to her Twitter handle, Irani wrote, "Arvind Kejriwal, gutter mouth Gopal Italia now abuses Hira Ba with your blessings... I don’t want to show how indignant Gujaratis are but know this you have been judged & your party shall be decimated electorally in Gujarat..."

"Hira Ba is the form of Mother Shakti. Kejriwal's special Gopal Italia did not exclude 100-year-old Hira Ba from his politics of hate. There is no place for AAP and its warped mentality in a civilized society like Gujarat," Irani stated.

Union minister Anurag Thakur also took a jibe at AAP for disrespecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother.

While addressing a rally in poll-bound Gujarat on Saturday, the BJP MP said, "Earlier an Italian woman used to insult Prime Minister Narendra Modi, now an Italia is insulting his mother." While he did not mention anyone’s name, it was apparent that he was targeting Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who was born in Italy, and the AAP's Gujarat unit head Gopal Italia.

The minister launched scathing attacks on the Congress and AAP in his rallies in the state. “Gujarat did not accept this insult earlier...it will not accept it now. Gujarat will give a befitting reply," said Thakur.
