VamosVentures is an early-stage impact venture capital fund created to invest in extraordinary diverse tech entrepreneurs with a focus on Latinx founders.  While our focus is on Seed Rounds, we will also invest in Pre-Seed and Series A rounds. Our mission is to (i) generate market-rate investment returns, and (ii) deliver meaningful impact through wealth creation, social mobility, unique tech solutions and taking a visible and clear stand as diverse investors.

We have a strong investor base of some of the most respected foundations, corporations, pensions, and business leaders across the country, who have committed $50mm to VamosVentures’ inaugural fund. About the role

As a senior member of the Investment Team, you will play a leadership role in fine-tuning and evolving the Fund’s investment strategy, investment process, decision making and portfolio support. You will also participate in “firm building” internally and with external stakeholders. As such, this role is ideal for someone who has senior level experience at a VC fund, building a track record or building companies as a founder. The ideal person will also be comfortable leading teams, managing growth, cultivating culture and building diverse and senior level relationships.


What you’ll do

Fund Strategy: Contribute to broad fund strategy for Fund 1 and participate in Fund 2 strategy development. Participate in the evolution of key trends and market areas of interest for the fund. Fine-tune investment parameters to narrow funnel from open to high-value targets and implement formal investment process that ensures fast response and alignment with strategic company, investment, portfolio and fund criteria. Present to stakeholders and others on the fund, its approach, and its future.

Sourcing, Diligence & Closing:  Leverage existing and new relationships to identify high-growth opportunities that will support fund strategy. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of prospective investments. Leadership in ensuring fund participation in key investment opportunities and final closing. Document and determine best practices for investment memos and investment process.

Portfolio Support:  Leverage experience as a fund manager or entrepreneur to ensure appropriate and high-value support to portfolio. Collaborate with Head of Platform to execute on portfolio value-add strategy.

Firm Building: Participate in internal fund processes and systems related to investing, platform management, team, and fund administration; lead changes or modifications when necessary. Provide leadership in building team, mentorship of team, and firm values and culture.

Ecosystem Development: Take a clear and visible role in your community, and the VC and founder community, by participating in events, panels, or creating content (blog posts, social media, events, etc.) that reflect firm values, mission, and seek to empower diverse founders.

Requirements

Organizational Leadership: You have been the founder or senior level member of a leadership team – at a VC fund or start-up – and excelled at leading the organization.

Investment Experience: You have invested capital in early-stage tech companies and have learned what works and what does not, and/or invested in your own start-ups and have successfully grown one or more to a meaningful size or exit. You have an eye for what it takes to grow and scale a company.

VC Industry Knowledge: You are proficient in the “Venture Capital Business”. You understand the internal mechanics of a fund and the external drivers of the fund business. You can weigh short term deal-specific considerations and broad portfolio, platform and future strategic implications, at the same time.

Network and Pipeline: A broad network within the VC eco-system – including funds, founders, companies, investors, etc. Able to leverage your networks to generate a robust and high-quality pipeline of early-stage companies led by diverse teams.

Industry Expertise: Ideally have deep expertise and/or knowledge in one of our key areas of interest (financial services, health and wellness, future of work, CPG or e-commerce), as exemplified by your track record or previous entrepreneurial efforts.

Analytical and Communication Skills: Strong analytical and framework abilities. Equally strong communication skills in both written and verbal formats as you will engage with a variety of stakeholders including founders, limited partners, partner organizations, and co-investors.

Demonstrated Passion: Loves talking about the startup and VC ecosystem and holds thoughtful perspectives on new technologies and emerging trends.

Proactive & Resourceful: Naturally takes initiative to contribute, add value, and collaborate. Creative thinker and able to “figure it out” to fulfill responsibilities and deliver results.

Ownership and Detail: Naturally takes ownership of tasks, initiatives, deals, and firm. Takes personal pride in work product and deliverables.  

Experience: At least 10 years of work experience; some or all of it at a VC fund, or a venture-backed startup where you were a co-founder.  

Personal:  Conviction around our mission of investing and impact. Humility, empathy, integrity, generosity, and search for greatness are all required traits. A sense of humor doesn’t hurt.

Location: The candidate should be based in or willing to relocate to Los Angeles, California.

Compensation: competitive package, work flexibility and relocation support if required.
