Safe Home: Northern Ireland

Join our campaign to make sure local venue owners and managers are protecting artists and others when leaving work in Northern Ireland

Equity in Northern Ireland is campaigning to make sure local venue owners and managers are protecting artists and others when leaving work.

Performers such as cabaret artistes, comedians, stage managers and singers can be vulnerable when working at entertainment venues, especially when working alone.  Working in live entertainment can mean individuals having to leave venues late at night, they may be parking and loading out in insecure locations with expensive and / or cumbersome equipment and  there may be a lack of personal security.

Equity says that it is the principal duty of hirers and employers, under the Health and Safety at Work (Northern Ireland) Order 1978 Act , to secure the health, safety and welfare of employees and other people at their workplace.

Our campaign asks venue owners and managers to agree to the following principles:

  • Artists will be accompanied to their ongoing transport by 2 members of staff, unless they request otherwise
  • Artists will be provided with reputable taxi firm numbers to arrange their transport
  • Payment for artists’ travel is made clear within their contract
  • If the venue has car parking, artists will be provided with a free car parking space on request.

Venue owners and managers who commit to these principles can display our poster to demonstrate their support.  If you are a venue owner or manager please tweet "I support #EquitySafeHome in Northern Ireland" with a picture of your venue with the poster on show!

If you need a copy of the poster to provide to your local venue or want to discuss supporting this campaign email our Northern Ireland Official: alemon@equity.org.uk.
