“Sophisticated” Chardonnay from Willamette Valley
While Oregon might not instantly invoke thoughts of Chardonnay, it should. The Willamette Valley is ground zero for some of the world’s finest expressions of this grape—we’re not kidding.
Remarkably, because the region is young compared to Burgundy, Champagne, and Napa Valley, incredible wines can be had from the foggy stretches of Oregon for a shockingly low price compared to their peers in other areas. The Morgen Long Chardonnay—made by a man with laser-focus on this white grape and experience at Rhys, WillaKenzie, Akarua, and the legendary De Montille in Burgundy—is one of those wines. Today, I’m thrilled to share a small allocation with you.
Decanter praised winemaker and founder Seth Morgen Long as “a specialist in Willamette Valley Chardonnay” for “producing some of the most elegant, nuanced wines in the valley.“ As a result of mountains of early praise, these wines all but disappear on Morgen Long’s mailing list… except for today.
We are thrilled to share with you our first ever allocation of the Willamette Valley Chardonnay. It is a blend of different sites made in the house style. The delicate use of oak creates a layer of depth with subtle spice and toast while letting the character of the cool climate Chardonnay shine in all its fresh-citrus glory. Decanter calls it “Very elegant, sophisticated wine.”
We just call it a must-have.
