International Solidarity for African Union (IS)


Background:

The International Solidarity for African Union (I.S.) was founded in October to promote solidarity amongst all Africans & contributing positively toward the economy through a sound collaboration between foreign   nationals and local people to find the solution to the main problems of the country in which they dwell.

The International Solidarity for African Union is registered with the South African Department of Social Development since October 23rd 2006.  The International Solidarity for African Union is been granted the status of Public Benefit Organisation (PBORegistration# 930043778 in term of the section 30(3) of the Tax Act No 58 of 1962 (the Act) & Tax Deductible organisation in term of Section 18A(1)(a) of the Act & Exempt from the Donation Tax in terms of Section 56(1)(h) of the Income Tax Act. Exemption from the payment of Estate Duty in terms of the Section 4(h) of the Estate Duty Act No. 45 of 1955, 

The INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY FOR AFRICAN UNION for the past height years has successfully achieved the following projects:

-Feeding scheme every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (2005-2009)

-Participated actively to the World Conference of Religions for the Millennium Development Goals 2006

-Active Member of KZN Network on Violence Against Women and thus lobbying for women rights and gender equity (2005-2009)

-Contributed to elaborate the South African Charter of Victims of Crime with the Department of Justice & Constitutional Development

-Active member of Durban Network of Service Providers to Refugee and thus lobbying for refugee rights, participating in World Refugee Day (2006-2009)

-Trained for HIV/AIDS & TB Counselling by Soul City & UNHCR (October 2007)

-We are registered in the KZN HIV – related Services Directorate, working with HIV-911 & its partners to tackle the HIV pandemic.

-French language course to the Department of Home Affairs employees from KZN Province (2006) absolutely free of charge,

-Trained as IOM Certified trainer for Counter-Human Trafficking programme (Pretoria -2007)

-Organized Capacity building workshops on counter-human trafficking for South African Civil society organisation

-Participated in 2008 to the Conference on South African Domestic Violence Act, Theme: “Lesson from a Decade of Legislation & Implementation” organized by CSVR.

-2009, trained as Trainer & facilitator on the UN Methodology called: “Community Capacity Enhancement (CCE)”  to conduct in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation research & Community Dialogue in various parts of the country for resolution of conflicts & social coercion.

-Considering that its main objective was never about religion but about people, In 2007 the International Solidarity due to the lack of support from other category of funders decided to enter into partnership with a local NPO called Shadows of Hope Development Organisation & Training College to add value to their work, whilst making better use of their know-how.

-The Shadows of hope has grown very big today following our advices executing our projects all over the KZN Province.

-We are still working together with Shadows of Hope Development Organisation & Training College mostly as Project Consultants, and Mentors.


-The International Solidarity is actually writing an essay on how to cut down the crime in South Africa through promotion of Moral & Civic Education.





Mission Statement:

Our mission is to champion the skills development and exchange between local & foreign communities so we may use all available resources within the country to achieve the millennium development goals whilst creating more young Black empowered youths & women at the same time.

  • We go into the deep rural areas to discuss with community members and research the fact of poverty
  • We are committed to respect the Code of good practice for NPOs.
  • Honesty: We will respect the “BATHO PELE” principles, and work and manage our NGO’s funds with transparency; giving our partners / Sponsors the possibility to check in our finances books when there is need.
  • Humanism: We will make the people we serve our priority; always putting their interest before ours.
  • Compassion: We will take care of our clients/ patients with love support and compassion.
  • Quality: We will persist in providing quality services at all the time and summit ourselves to continuous evaluation
  • Human rights and dignity: We will respect the rights of our patients to confidentiality, and any other of their human rights.
  • Fighting crime by promoting moral values and civic education


Objectives:


The organisation’s main objectives are to:


  • Promote basic Civic Education & Constructive Patriotism amongst the youths
  • To feed, shelter the Orphans and Vulnerable Children (O.V.C)
  • To provide basic health education to all regarding STD/HIV/AIDS & TB and basic counselling skills.
  • Provide accurate Capacity Building trainings in Counter Human Trafficking (long experience with International Organisation for Migration (IOM))
  • Conduct community dialogue to resolve conflicts (years of experience with the Mandela Foundation)
  • Research and promote cultural talents amongst the rural youths
  • Recruit and enroll qualified residents & refugees into volunteer hands-on skills transfer program to empower rural youths.
  • Law Clinic for community
  • Recruit volunteer from all over the world to assist in any possible way to reaching our objectives.
  • To work in collaboration with other organisations which mainly deal with health transformation and education prevent use of dangerous substances, drugs, alcohol… etc, as well as the addiction to them.
  • Assist the OVCs & the Elderly to apply & receive necessary grants due to them.

 Major Activities:


  • International Solidarity for African Union provides the following services:
  • Capacity building training in counter-human trafficking
  • Capacity building Training in Community Capacity Enhancement (CCE) methodology
  • We use the CCE methodology to approach communities and assist them in finding the cause of the social cohesion problems as well as finding most appropriate solutions.
  • Capacity building in ICTs
  • We have a partnership with the world best online university (Alison University in the UK) please see: http://alison.com , to offer more than 400 professional courses to underprivileged residents or even employed people who cannot afford to pay to further their education. All this will be easier when we have enough computers at our disposal. The aim of this project is to generate more qualified and employable youths from rural families.
  • We intend to raise funds to pay for the courses and their certificates to be free of charge.
  • We offer translation services to refugee and also form local underprivileged youths to become translators and interpreters.
  • Provide training for home care for terminal ill.
  • Provide health information and education.
  • Provide patient and family counseling and support.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation of Healthcare related projects to the community.


  • Facilitate the formation of support group
  • Promotion of positive living
  • Care for orphans and vulnerable children
  • Assist clients to apply for Birth Certificates &/IDs
  •  Liaise with department of social development to secure client’s grants when qualified for
  • We will raise funds for low cost housing for the underprivileged to assist government to achieve its goals.
  • Organize foster parents
  • Mobilize Islamic relief plan for food hampers for needy awaiting for social grant
  • Facilitate initiation of  community based development enterprises & programme
  • Chronic Diseases Clinic
  • Education programmes on HIV/AIDS, TB & other preventable diseases


The above mentioned services are offered almost free of charge.
