I have worked in the Student Association (SA) for two years and currently serve as treasurer. During this time, I successfully pushed to designate Election Day 2024 as a non-instructional day and made crucial reforms to the Blanket Tax making it more accessible and accountable.

I want the SA to be more transparent to the student body and to be unequivocal about supporting our most vulnerable students. I want to implement a ‘legislation tracker’ and produce a semester timeline for important dates so we value the time of our presidents and senators. I plan to amplify underrepresented student voices starting with appointing students from affinity organizations like BSA, HACER, and PRIDE to positions across the SA. 

To support students, I believe gender-nonconforming students should have access to a gender-dysphoria specialist in the wellbeing office. The SA should press the Admission office to release a plan for inclusive admissions considering the impending decision from the Supreme Court. Rice will be adopting new Title IX policies and these policies should move away from the tribunals put in place by the previous Department of Education and be written with survivors in mind. Rice should have a wage that makes work worth students' time; it’s outrageous that one department can pay $8.25 and another $18. 

SA’s advocacy shouldn’t be confined to the hedges. I want to pursue allowing college ID as an acceptable form of voter identification in Texas among other issues.
