M.A.C.A.M (MUSEO DI ARTE CONTEMPORANEA ALL' APERTO DI MAGLIONE (IT) LAUNCHES A FUNDRAISING EFFORT TO RESTORE DETERIORATING ARTWORKS
Il M.A.C.A.M nasce nel 1985 da un’idea di Maurizio Corgnati come associazione culturale senza fini di lucro con operatività indirizzata alla diffusione e promozione dell’arte contemporanea.
Il paese ospita sui muri delle case, nelle strade e nelle piazze dipinti, sculture e installazioni di artisti provenienti da tutto il mondo. Tra questi Cattelan, Asdrubali, Benetton, Cavaliere, Dadamaino, Del Pezzo, Dorazio. Silvano e Piero Gilardi, Griffa, Guerzoni, Habicher, Hsiao, Mainolfi, Mondino, Nespolo, Nils-Udo, Gio’ Pomodoro, Salvo, Staccioli, Tadini, Testa, Trotta, Valentini, Varisco e Zorio.
La fama del museo ha varcato I confini regionali e nazionali, e l’ampia eco si deve non solo alla sua peculiarità di museo come passeggiata all’aperto, ma all’essere del tutto estraneo alle leggi di mercato e ai fini lucrativi.
Ma le opere necessitano anche di manutenzione e restauro: trovandosi all’aria aperta sono soggette agli effetti degli eventi atmosferici.
Il sole, la pioggia, il freddo, il vento, anche ciclonico, come nell’ottobre del 2019 , le opere, in simbiosi con l’ambiente e la realtà urbanistica, hanno vissuto le storie dei muri, delle strade e degli abitanti.
La trasformazione della società, la crisi economica, il processo di abbandono delle comunità rurali che accomuna molti territori italiani ,con il conseguente degrado architettonico sono solo alcuni dei fattori in gioco.
Dal 1985 a oggi il M.A.C.A.M ha lavorato incessantemente per la tutela e la salvaguardia del proprio patrimonio artistico.
Ha fronteggiato così ogni tipo di situazioni, legate alla trasformazione urbanistica e alle calamità naturali. Persino purtroppo a volte ad atti vandalici.
Questo crowd funding è rivolto al raggiungimento della cifra di 5 mila euro per dare la possibilità al M.A.C.A.M di intervenire attivamente sul restauro di alcune opere che hanno subito un grave deterioramento, e che altrimenti perderanno presto la loro leggibilità.
In passato la corresponsione da parte delle Regione Piemonte di sostegni economici permetteva di portare avanti il lavoro di conservazione e manutenzione, ma le più recenti normative regionali (dal 2010 circa) hanno inasprito le procedure e per le loro modifiche reso inattuabile il ricorso a richieste di contributo, se non precedute da un fundraising autonomo ( il contributo regionale, se erogato, copre al massimo il 50% dei costi).
Alcune opere rischiano di andare irremediabilmente perdute se non si interviene tempestivamente.
Abbiamo davvero bisogno di restaurare i lavori di Armando Testa, Aldo Spoldi e Luca Alinari, che si trovano attualmente in stato di degrado, di restaurare e riposizionare la splendida opera di Paul Goodwin, danneggiata in seguito del ciclone nell’ottobre 2019, e di rifare una delle tre installazioni di Francesco Garbelli.
E' molto importante intervenire sull'opera di Renata Boero, danneggiata dall'alluvione nel 2019 e in seguito anche da un tentativo di furto finalizzato alla rivendita del materiale di supporto (rame).
La cifra di 5000 euro basterà appena ad eseguire questi lavori.
Eseguiamo noi stessi, con l'aiuto del Comune, molti lavori di manutenzione ordinaria, non potendo contare sul supporto economico di nessun ente pubblico.
Il M.A.C.A.M , museo ricordiamo senza fini di lucro, è pieno di energie e desideroso di poter offrire ai propri visitatori una visita piacevole, respirando un'aria diversa, un atmosfera particolare dove l’arte e la vita quotidiana sono in simbiosi.

Il muro su cui si trovava è stato demolito. Il costo della conservazione dell'affresco attraverso tecniche specialistiche di rimozione e ricollocazione sarebbe stato troppo elevato perché potessimo sostenerlo.
L'abbiamo scelta come simbolo di questo fundraising per rappresentare la distruzione, il decadimento, l'abbandono che vogliamo contrastare e fermare.

Maglione is a picturesque agricultural village of 500 inhabitants in the Province of Torino (Piemonte?), 45km from Turin and 90km from Milan. (with the ever present Alps in the distance)
The Museum of open-Air Contemporary Art in Maglione (M.A.C.A.M. (Museo di Arte Contemporanea all'Aperto, Maglione)) was born from the imagination of Maurizio Corgnati in 1985 as a cultural association to promote contemporary art that is accessible and free for everyone.
On exterior walls of the residents' homes, in the streets and in the town's piazzas are paintings, sculptures and art installations from artists around the world, including: Cattelan, Asdrubali, Benetton, Cavaliere, Dadamaino, Del Pezzo, Dorazio, Silvano e Piero Gilardi, Griffa, Guerzoni, Habicher, Hsiao, Mainolfi, Mondino, Nespolo, Nils-Udo, Gio’ Pomodoro, Salvo, Staccioli, Tadini, Testa, Trotta, Valentini, Varisco e Zorio.
The fame of the museum has escaped the confines of region and country
The reputation of the museum has extended beyond the region and country to become a destination for tourists from abroad to experience una passeggiata (a leisurely stroll) through the streets of our singular gallery.
But, the artworks are in need of care, as they are subjected to exposure to the elements: sun, rain, cold, wind, even a wind storm in October of 2019, the works bear witness to the changing of the seasons in all manner of weather. In symbiosis with the environment and urban realities, they have witnessed the history of the walls, the streets and the residents.
Societal transformations, the economic crises, the increasing abandonment of rural communities which have comprised so much of Italy for so long, and with that the architecture falling into disrepair - are just some of the factors at play.
Since 1985 M.A.C.A.M. has worked diligently to safeguard and conserve our artistic heritage; having faced a variety of adverse conditions, urban transformation and natural disasters, and even, unfortunately, occasional vandalism.
This crowdfunding is intended to add 5000 Euros to MACAM's efforts to intervene with much needed restoration work and prevent the most dire deterioration.
In the past , in part, due to financial support received from the Piedmont Region enabled some maintenance.
Restoration funds from Piedmont Region are hard to access, and only in the form of matched contributions
We are at risk of losing some pieces entirely if we cannot act soon. The works most in need are those by Armando Testa, Aldo Spoldi and Luca Alinari, the repositioning and restoration of the splendid work by Paul Goodwin, damaged by the wind storm in October 2019, and the complete rebuilding of Francesco Garbelli's installation. Critical intervention/action is needed for important work by Renata Boero also damaged by wind in 2019, then subsequently additionally damaged by partial theft & attempted theft of the valuable copper support structure, which, in collaboration with the artist, will be replaced with a less tempting material.
The sum of 5000 will just cover the expense of this work.
Much of the work is done by and with the help of the local community, including the majority of the regular maintenance, but there is currently not much dependable public financial support available.
MACAM, a non profit which is full of energy, is bringing forth beauty, integrating artistic ideas and principles, offering our visitors a different light, and the chance to experience immersion in a unique atmosphere where art & daily life are in simbiosis / simpatico ?

That wall was demolished. The cost of mantaining the artwork by using specific techniques to remove the affresco and recollocate it was too high and we couldn't afford it.
We chose it as a symbol of this fundraising to represent the disruption, decay and abandonment which we aim to prevent
