As the world anxiously watched, Scotland voted for political freedom from England.
With the vote, frumpy Amelia MacRory became Scotland’s only hope. As the last direct descendant of Mary Queen of Scots, fire ran in Amelia’s blood. Only she could defend the rights of the people. After being kidnapped from her American home in the dead of night—and almost killed in the process—she was forced to become Queen of Scotland. And as a killer closes in, the Royal Scottish Guards must step in and protect her — whether she likes it or not.
Can she survive a world of intrigue, subterfuge, and assassins that have been designed to bring down the newly independent country? Or will she lose it all—including the man she loves…?
I had chosen this book because of the promise of adventure and drama but the author I had not really heard of but no worries. I began it with this author really knowing how to ensnare someone with the events right away. Amelia is in for a new beginnings that also you too wonder what she is going to do. How it is done is quite interesting with her personality combine it with in comes Jacob even though there are others them two alone are like a keg and gun powder. What she does do is extraordinary with surprises galore. I also begin to wonder hummm this author really has quite the talent too. She pulls out of a reader a range of emotions that usually only come from seasoned authors. In fact one scene I was reading on my lunch time and had to leave the break room and find a spot more private because this author had me tearing up thanks to the sorrowful events at one point. Sniveling I was but none the less she will also give you much more than that too. There will be in this a love that comes on quick on one side but not so on another and spans so deep that it will be what brings the tears, anger and joy out of us. Mystery and danger are all in the mix also but by the time it is all said and done I am emotionally spent but well satisfied this also was a big surprise of a read.

Amelia MacRory had no idea that she was about to be kidnapped when she got home and settled herself in, but Jacob and two of his fellow guards had come from Scotland to come and collect the next queen of Scotland. By vote, Scotland had succeeded, and Amelia was the last descendant of Mary, Queen of Scots. After a health scare, she wakes up in Scotland, ready to do battle. But as she does, she meets one of her royal guard, Jacob, she learns to not only grow into her role, but how to love as well. But there are factions out to undermine the new queen. Will her and Jacob and her men be able to stop it in time? You need to head over to Amazon and find out! This was a wonderful book and I truly loved Amelia. I had a bunch of different emotions reading this, which is the sign of a truly good book! I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an Honest review
