The Abnormality of Death

The Abnormality of Death
Today we are faced with the abnormality of death due to COVID-19, disparities in healthcare, the assault on black lives and more. Join us in this thought-provoking discussion as we search for answers.

We know that death is a normal part of the human journey. Humanity, however, is coming to grips with the fact that for many death is full of abnormalities difficult to conceive and comprehend. The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated communities across the country, especially communities of color which experience disparities in health care. And recently every-day Americans seem to be waking up to a "new" reality when it comes to the deaths of black and brown people at the hands of those in law enforcement and others who are in positions of power.

Cameroonian social theorist, Achille Mbembe, calls it necropolitics—the use of social power and politics to determine who dies and who will live. How do we make sense that some live while others die? Pastor and cultural strategist, Dr. Lisa D. Jenkins will dialogue with theologian, Rabbi Jan Uhrbach about our culture in the wake of the COVID-19 epidemic and the onslaught of black killings across our country, along with the recent civil unrest.
