Heartbeat of the Earth

A series of creative online experiments interpreting and developing climate data

Heartbeat of the Earth is an ongoing Google Arts & Culture Lab series collaborating with artists and scientists to creatively use technology to interpret, communicate, and develop climate data.

Artists have created interactive artworks exploring many critical topics such as water scarcity, declining biodiversity, air pollution, noise pollution, food consumption, microplastic intake, melting glaciers, and rising sea levels.

As part of this series, Google Arts & Culture Lab is also collaborating with scientists by creating citizen science platforms that allow anyone around the world to contribute to the development of climate research and solutions such as coral reef restoration.

Each project was developed using key findings from landmark UN reports and data from scientific institutions, including United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), NASA, World Health Organization (WHO), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and World Meteorological Organization to name a few.
