Help Alice with her Overseas to Australia

Mi sono laureata in Relazioni Internazionali e Diplomatiche ed ora studio Law and Economics of Insurance and Finance all’Università di Bologna.

TED Talk Integrazione Sostenibile

--------------------------------

Hey guys! I am Alice Fontanelli, an Italian student from Bologna with a dream: working hard to concretely help people. This dream has become even more tangible when, in 2016, I was one of the winners of the TEDxYouth contest where I presented my project “Integrazione Sostenibile''. Two years later, the same project was selected as one of the most innovative ideas at the very important event of the University of Bologna: the Start-up Day.

After high school, I continued to study because I strongly believe that education is something fundamental and extremely powerful. I graduated in International Relations and Public Affairs at the University of Bologna and now I am doing a two-years master’s degree in Law and Economics of Insurance and Finance at the same University. The choice of this specific Master was due to the fact that I  would really like to understand how the financial system works – too often reserved to an autoreferential elite – in order to be able to make it more equal and sustainable both from the social and the environmental perspectives.

Ever since I was very young, I have been working hard not to burden my family resources and thanks to this, I finally was able to pay on my own a one-year Erasmus in Dublin, at Trinity College (unfortunately interrupted by the pandemic). As I never left Bologna before because of a lack of financial support, the experience of being abroad in such a different city from a cultural perspective was extremely precious.

Unfortunately, the pandemic is preventing me from finding a job and saving money to finance my next dream project: studying in Australia for six months. Indeed, I recently won a six-months Overseas programme at the University of Melbourne. I specifically chose the University of Melbourne because of its well-known course of Sustainable Business Practices which perfectly fits with my goal of bringing into the Italian system a long-term business model based on both social and environmental sustainability.

This is such a unique and unbelievable experience! Unfortunately, the pandemic has worsened my family’s financial condition, so I have no choice but asking people to help me realise my dream. I will continue fighting and doing everything I can to achieve my goals.

Thank you all for the time you dedicated to me!
