DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) -- Dozens of people gathered at Eastwood Metropark on Saturday with their favorite furry friends for the Humane Society of Greater Dayton’s annual Furry Skurry fundraising event.

“It’s so nice to have people out again,” said Brian Weltge, President and CEO of the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. The fundraiser was filled with activities, including a 5k run for people (with or without their dogs), a walk, all kinds of games, a costume contest, and lots of activities for animals and for people. “It’s just a lot of fun to celebrate pets, celebrate the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, and the need in our community to help animals,” said Weltge.

The money raised through the event is going to fund the various programs the Humane Society runs, including its adoption program, spay/neuter program, and its cruelty/neglect program. “We’re grateful for the people who came out today and we’re grateful for everyone’s support,” said Weltge. He added that because of the Delta variant of COVID-19, some people were more hesitant about coming to the event, but chose to send in a donation instead.
