On April 20-21, 2022, LMT showcased 5G network capabilities in the 5G military testbed in Ādaži and the Gulf of Riga. The demonstration was attended by representatives from the U.S. Department of Defence (U.S. DoD) during the Department’s working visit to Latvia.

LMT organized the showcase collaboratively with the Latvian Ministry of Defence, National Armed Forces (NAF), State Border Guard, the Electronic Communications Office of Latvia, SRC Brasa, and Exonicus.

The goal of this visit was to strengthen connections and establish future cooperation with the U.S. DoD as well as showcase the 5G military testbed and its capabilities. We received praise from the delegates regarding both the demonstration and the outstanding level of cooperation between the Latvian Ministry of Defence, the NAF, and the tech industry in Latvia.

One of the main applications of technology innovations is using them to benefit human well-being and security. Therefore, LMT is pleased to be among the defence technology innovation leaders in Latvia. By cooperating on various R&D projects in defence and security, LMT has contributed to establishing Latvia as one of the crucial developers of defence innovations alongside other European countries.

The showcase of 5G capabilities for defence provided opportunities to assess the usefulness and compatibility of new solutions with the existing equipment, devices, and systems. The demo was conducted in an environment close to real conditions for combat and military operations and showed that a modern defence sector could not exist without cellular technologies.
