Today, Los Angeles psych pop band Amo Amo shared a shimmering new single, Missed Connection,” off their just-announced EP Canta, out June 19 on Poolside's Pacific Standard Records to coincide with the summer solstice weekend and the longest days of the year. It follows the band’s previous song celebrating Earth Day, Canta,” which Indie Shuffle praised as “an alluring, chillwave track” that “carries a deeper meaning.” Last year, the quintet released their self-titled debut album produced by Jim James of My Morning Jacket, which features the single “Closer to You” recently in an Apple ad here (3 million + views).

The band explains the new track: “‘Missed Connection’ explores themes of isolation and the absence of human connection within our technology-obsessed culture - a message which feels especially resonant in the current climate of pandemic and social distancing. The song expresses a deeply felt yearning for reconnection, not only with one another but with all forms of life and with Earth itself.”

Amo Amo previously collaborated with Poolside on Around The Sun(Rolling Stone “Song You Need to Know”) and had their own singles in heavy rotation at Los Angeles tastemaker radio stations KCRW and KCSN, racking up nearly 3 million plays on Spotify. The band formed in June 2017 when a group of dear friends - Lovelle Femme, Omar Velasco, Justin Flint, Shane Mckillop and Alex Siegel - got together for an impromptu session in Los Angeles with Jim James. There had been a premonition that the five of them shared a sort of psychic bond that would lead to a revelation in sound. Five months later, after a month-long recording retreat nestled amongst California’s vineyards and out of range of cell phone service, Amo Amo emerged with a collection of soulful, magic songs.

They were tapped as the backing band for the live debut of Lux Prima, the new project from Karen O & Danger Mouse, opened for the likes of Poolside, Jonathan Wilson, Hailu Mergia and Tropicalia legends Os Mutantes, as well as My Morning Jacket at Red Rocks. Legendary mastering engineer Bob Ludwig (Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney, Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen, Frank Ocean) said, “I really love these songs, they are standouts of the past year for me…Amo Amo has made a very special album.” Jenny Eliscu (Rolling Stone, Sirius XM) added “Rarely do I come across a new band with as strong a sense of self-identity as Amo Amo… their live show is ecstatic.” Truly, Amo Amo is a band not to be missed.
