In this prophetic collection of seminal essays and reflections, the public intellectual, theologian and social justice scholar Reverend Professor Keith Magee provides a thoughtful, sharp, and critical analysis of how questions of race, religion, and politics impact on society today. It explores the historical context of American democracy and how it has long failed to deliver true justice to all the nation’s citizens. It exposes the social construct of race and the myriad ways in which this false idea – along with sometimes wilful misinterpretations of sacred texts – have been used to justify the subjugating of one people by another, simply because of the colour of their skin. Written over the course of the last four years, these essays and articles touch on some painful subjects, but also give us reason to hope. Keith Magee describes how, with courage and faith, we can create brave spaces of engagement in which people can come together to face up to the injustices of the past and to learn how to love ‘the other’ as they love themselves, thus creating a new world in which every life truly matters.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"From within our deeply divided country comes Keith Magee with a book that brings political and religious wisdom. His voice echoes the biblical prophets, arousing our courage to restore justice and giving us hope and inspiration to create a much better future."
Susannah Heschel, Eli M. Black Distinguished Professor of Jewish Studies Dartmouth College

"Because the Beloved Community beckons us, and the soul of America is at stake, Prophetic Justice is a must read. It is a clarion call to those who are profoundly committed to liberating America from the historical and ongoing oppression around race, religion, and politics, that seeks to continually divide us."
Bernice A. King, CEO, The King Center

"Keith Magee's new book arrives when a way out and a way up from the social-political crisis are sorely needed. He greets us like a fresh wind that knows no bounds nor limitations, but breaks through as a liberating spirit. A courageous work, he digs deeply into some issues of race and religion that many commentators have chosen to avoid. He aim directly to the heart, to our soul, where no matter difference that we might see hope rising and still learn to love and love together."
Barbara A Reynolds, Minister and Author, Coretta Scott King: My Life, My Love, My Legacy, Out Of Hell and Living Well, and No! I Won't Shut Up!

"The intersection of faith and politics is compellingly examined in Keith Magee's new book, Prophetic Justice. He reveals religious philosophies embedded in every aspect of our nation. "Carol Moseley-Braun, American Diplomat and Politician

"A deeply personal and emotional reflection on the history and current state of racial tension and inequality. Magee masterfully weaves his own experiences and observations with Biblical teachings and indisputable facts to make the reader understand how the past affects the present. Going beyond analysis and interpretation, he offers practical ideas on how to create a world that is equal and just for all."
Michelle Duster, Author, Ida B The Queen and Great-granddaughter of Ida B. Wells

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth a read for anyone.

In times of divide and blind hate fueled by false promises, which lead to finger pointing, this books essays give an interesting insight about the state of U.S.A, its current and historical affairs. The remedy to these problems is the corner stone of the Christs Gospel that people more than often throw away: Love God & love one another, most importantly, your enemies. Definately worth a read.
